Cairnvost Howe - Indigo takes Dundonians into the Angus Glens, the Sidlaw Hills and the Lomond Hills through affordable led walks and practical skills sessions β providing transport, lending kit, and welcoming anyone who wants the outdoors without needing a car, a rucksack, or years of experience.
Book a walkOur workLess than forty minutes from Dundee city centre, the Angus Glens open into some of the most dramatic hill country in lowland Scotland. Glen Clova, Glen Prosen, Glen Isla β these valleys have shaped this part of the world for millennia, yet for many Dundee residents they remain effectively out of reach: too far without a car, too intimidating without the right gear, too expensive once you add up boots, waterproofs and a bus that doesn't run. Cairnvost Howe - Indigo was set up to close that gap. We run regular group walks and skills days across the Angus Glens, the Sidlaw ridge and the Lomond Hills of Fife, and we take care of everything that might otherwise stop you: we organise the minibus, lend the waterproofs and walking poles, lead the route, and make sure every walk finishes with a hot drink and a conversation rather than a solitary trudge back to a car park. We work especially closely with students at Dundee's universities and colleges, with families in areas of the city where green space is scarce, and with anyone who has simply never had the chance to discover what is sitting right on their doorstep.
Every Cairnvost Howe - Indigo outing includes a minibus pick-up from central Dundee. If getting there has been your barrier, we've removed it.
We carry a pool of waterproof jackets, rucksacks, walking poles and gaiters for walkers who need them. Joining a walk should not require a Β£300 shopping trip first.
Our practical skills sessions cover navigation, weather reading, safe river crossings and basic hill first aid. You leave knowing how to plan and lead your own days out.
Cairnvost Howe - Indigo exists to ensure that every Dundonian who wants to experience the hills, glens and moorlands of Angus and Fife has a practical, affordable and welcoming route to do so. We believe that access to wild and semi-wild landscapes is not a luxury for the well-equipped few but a right for every city resident, and that the barriers of cost, transport and confidence are organisational problems to be solved rather than personal failings to be overcome. We fulfil this mission by running a regular programme of led group walks and practical skills sessions, by maintaining a free-to-borrow kit pool, by organising our own transport from central Dundee, and by building the kind of warm, unhurried walking community in which nobody β regardless of background, fitness level or prior outdoor experience β ever feels out of place.
